Dismal winter, a promise of spring. This picture was taken about 1964, no earlier. We were about to run out of promising springs.
Points of reference:
Out of view on the left is a gas station and the big house on the left was owned by William and Mildred Breen, daughter Mary Ella (Thanks, Lisa, who is Mary Ella's daughter.) I can't recall if I was ever in that house but somebody told me it had interesting woodwork. Bobby Chapman and wife Joan lived in the pink house. Bob said he got a good deal on the paint! He also drove a foreign car!
Up from there on the left lived the Westons, Wright and Stella Buckley, Kenny and Ancille Davis.
To the right is the Methodist parsonage (Note the stone that marks the birthplace of the old author James Maurice Thompson.)
Moving up on the right is Albert Gant’s house, across the street from where Mr. And Mrs. Bosse lived. Boyds lived next to them The big white building, barely in view is the Methodist church. To the north of that, we lived for awhile. Howard Snider lived next to us.
It was not far to the downtown. I wish I had some photos of the old buggy factory that took up about half a block. Bakers lived in there somehow.
I have no idea who owned these cars. I bet they wish they had ’em back!
If anybody has any photos of the old buggy factory, I'd like to post them.
